Chapter goals are to provide community service in collaboration with the local network of services for the aging; promote fellowship; provide education and socialization for members; and plan new directions for people age 50 and over, serving their needs and interests. Programs include chapter meetings, newsletter, legislative updates, educational speakers, participation in state sponsored events and special local events. Luncheon meetings are held at 11:30 am on the 2nd Thursday of the month at the Holiday Inn at Exit 4 in Nashua. Membership fee is $5.00 for regular members and $10.00 for associate members (those under age 50).

The Academy for Science and Design is a chartered public school for grades 7 thru 12, specializing in science, mathematics, engineering and design. It is tuition free for New Hampshire residents and currently serves students from 23 New Hamsphire Communities. Algebra, physics and biology/chemistry are taught beginning in the 7th grade, technology is integrated throughout the curriculum, and student projects emphasize research skills and engineering. Mandarin Chinese is offered as the initial foreign language.

The Actorsingers is a nonprofit community theater organization dedicated to performing high-quality musicals. The Actorsingers produce two adult major musicals per season, as well as a children's musical (Junior Actorsingers) each spring and a teen musical each summer (Teen Actorsingers). A Teen Show Choir has been formed, with performances throughout the year. Rehearsals are usually scheduled for Sunday and Wednesday evenings. All auditions and rehearsals are held at Actorsingers Hall, 219 Lake Street, Nashua, NH. The Broadway shows are staged at the Edmund Keefe Auditorium, Elm Street, Nashua. Board meetings are held monthly. An annual meeting is held in June. The semi-annual meeting is held in January. Membership dues are $10.00 for an individual and $15 for a family. The AAUW is a national and international organization that promotes equity for women through advocacy, research and education. In addition to branch-wide activities, which include social events and fundraisers to support our scholarship, we offer smaller interest groups that include a book discussion group, a gourmet dinner group and a daytimers group that ventures to local attractions. Monthly meetings are held at various locations within the local area from September through June of each year. Membership is open to women of all ages from Amherst and surrounding towns that hold a degree or associate degree from an accredited college or university. Annual dues are $60.00.

The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disaster and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. There are no membership restrictions. Most Health and Safety Courses have fees. All emergency services are free. Available programs include:

Disaster relief - food, clothing, lodging, eye glasses, prescription medications, and mental health services to victims of disaster.
Armed Forces Emergency Service (AFES) - liaison for emergency communications to/from military personnel in times of crisis.
Health and Safety - adult, infant and/or child CPR; first aid; automated external defibrillator (AED); babysitter training; water safety courses; school safety programs offering free Basic Aid Training (BAT) and First Aid for Children Training (FACT); Preventing Disease Transmission-Bloodborne Pathogens; and Pet First Aid.

The league is a community resource dedicated to saving the lives of homeless pets; caring for companion animals afflicted by neglect, abandonment and cruelty; enhancing the relationship between people and pets through adoption education, compassion, and promotion of animal welfare. Beaver Brook is an environmental education and conservation organization. It offers programs for schools on and off-site, adult education programs, and programs for home schoolers and pre-schoolers. There are a variety of seasonal related programs with environmental themes. Program themes include Native Americans, winter survival, maple sugaring, New England wildlife, birding, bats and owls, snowshoeing, Habitat Quest, forest ecology, aquatic science, and orienteering. Meeting times and dates to be arranged. Meetings are held at Beaver Brook's educational facility or off-site at libraries and classrooms. Fees vary according to the program. Facility rentals and group campsite available.

Bedford Boomers is an informational association of hobbyists with the goals of promoting model railroading and assisting people of all ages to enjoy the hobby. The group participates in local, regional, and national events and interacts with the public at all functions. A public model-railroading exhibition is held the first Sunday in November. Meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 7:15 pm at the Bedford Public Library in Bedford. There are no dues.

Members promote square dancing through lessons and dances. They dance for physical and mental exercise, fellowship, friendship, laughter, and fun. Lessons are offered every Monday at 7 pm from September to June at Pilgrim Congregational Church, 4 Watson St., Nashua. Dances are the 2nd Saturday of each month from 8-10:30 pm from September to June at the same location. Lesson fee is $6 per person and dance admission is $7 per person.

The CareGivers Inc. is a small, private, grassroots nonprofit with the mission to help the frail, elderly, and disabled to maintain their independence through the spirit of volunteerism. the CareGivers recruits, screens, trains, and coordinates volunteers to offer presence and assistance to those in need through transportation, companionship, community workshops, a mobile food pantry, and service projects. The Guild is a community-based non-profit organization which promotes an appreciation for arts and crafts and fosters excellence in craftsmanship. The Guild will be open for 3 juried shows in 2009: The Spring Fair (April 30 - May 9); the Harvest Fair (Oct. 3 - 12); and the Holiday Fair (Nov. 27 - Dec. 20). All shows are open 10am-4pm, with free admission and free parking. A portion of the sales from these shows supports the Guild's education fund which offers programs (speakers, demonstrations) which are open to the public and also awards grants to Bedford schools for innovative arts and crafts programs. Monthly meetings are held from Sept. to May, usually on the fourth Monday of the month at the Guild building at the back of the Bedford Library parking lot. Members receive a monthly newsletter giving details and are urged to help with the many volunteer hours necessary to support our efforts. Annual dues are $20 and membership is open not only to artists and crafters, but to anyone interested in supporting the arts and crafts.

The Ecumenical AIDS Taskforce provides buddies for people living with AIDS (PLWAs) and supports their emotional and spiritual growth. It sponsors social gatherings, a Christmas party, an annual retreat, and a pen pal program for the state prisons. It also publishes a quarterly newsletter. There are no regular meeting dates/times. There are no special membership requirements or fees.

The Exchange Club is a community service organization of business and professional men and women. The major emphasis is on service to the community, especially to youth. Prevention of child abuse and recognition of the top students at Merrimack High School are among its activities. The organization supports other activities for children and youth, including Cans for Kids, Candidates' Night, gun locks (with Police Dept.), Top 10 Scholars, a high school scholarship, and financial support to Merrimack food pantries. Meetings are held on the second and fourth Mondays of each month at 6:30 pm at the Jade Dragon Restaurant in Merrimack. Membership dues are collected quarterly. New members are welcome.

Families in Transition is a non-profit agency that has served thousands of homeless men, women, and children in the southern New Hampshire area over the past 17 years. It's mission if to provide safe, affordable housing and comprehensive social services to individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, enabling them to gain self-sufficiency and respect. As one of the largest housing and supportive service providers in southern New Hampshire, and having experienced unprecedented growth due to increased need, Families in Transition continues to proudly honor its tradition of success for people who complete the program by transitioning into permanent housing.

The Free State Project is an effort to recruit 20,000 liberty-loving people to move to New Hampshire. It seeks neighborly, productive, tolerant folks from all walks of life, of all ages, creeds, and colors who agree to the political philosophy expressed in our Statement of Intent, that government exists at most to protect people's rights and should neither provide for people nor punish them for activities that interfere with no one else. The FSP is not a political action organization. It is not tied to any political party or organization; it does not run candidates for election; it does not financially support or endorse candidates; and it does not oppose or endorse legistation.
