Gateways Community Services believes that all people are of great value and strives to be innovative when providing quality support needed for individuals to lead meaningful lives in their community. Services are offered for infants with developmental delays, children & adults with disabilities, and elders in need of support. GIRL SCOUTS OF THE MERRIMACK COMMUNITY
This is the world's largest organization dedicated to helping girls everywhere build character and gain skills for success in the real world. Girls ages 5 and up, along with committed adult volunteers, develop strong values, leadership skills, social conscience and conviction. Girls and volunteer leaders choose and carry out activities that will encourage the development of Courage, Confidence and Character. Troops meet in various age levels, times, days and locations. Membership is open to girls in grades K-12 and adults over 18 years. Annual GSUSA fee of $12 in required, along with dues to the Troop.
The Granite Statesmen Barbershop Chorus (aka The Nashua Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society) is an all-male, performing chorus based in Nashua. The group regularly performs not only in New England, but also throughout the United States and abroad, entertaining audiences with a repertoire that includes a variety of musical timelines and styles. Dedicated to a cappella music primarily in the barbershop style, the group has won great acclaim for its work not only locally, but internationally as well. The group rehearses weekly at the Nashua Senior Activities Center, 70 Temple Street, Nashua, NH at 7:30pm. Membership is open to men of all ages and applications are considered throughout the year. GREATER NASHUA/MERRIMACK WOMEN'S SOFTBALL LEAGUE
This women's softball league plays in Nashua and Merrimack on Monday through Thursday nights from May through August. The league is open to women age 18 and older. Fees are determined by team.
The Greater Nashua Mothers Club is a social and support group that was formed to provide a nurturing community for mothers and their children. We come together to make new friends for ourselves and our children, to help and support each other, to learn more about successful parenting, and to have fun along the way. We offer friendship and support for Mothers, primary caregivers and children from birth through school age, including: play groups, new mom's support group, mom's night out, special events and speakers, holiday parties, and field trips. Board meetings are held the 2nd Monday of each month at members' homes. Annual membership dues are $25.00 and are due every March. HEEL & TOE SQUARE DANCE CLUB
Members dance for fun, exercise, and friendship. Dances are held on the 3rd Saturday of the month from 8-10:30 pm at the Bishop O'Neil Youth Center, 30 South Elm Street, Manchester, and beginners' classes are held on Sundays from Sept.-May, 6-8pm at at Cercle National Club, 550 Rockland Ave., Manchester. Dues are $10.00 per person, per year. Dance admission is $6.00. HIGH HOPES FOUNDATION OF NH, INC.
The purpose of the non-profit organization is to grant wishes to chronically and seriously ill children in New Hampshire, ages 3-18. The group sponsors various activities throughout NH and meets at various locations on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7 pm. Volunteers are always welcome, as High hopes is an all-volunteer foundation. HOLISTIC MOMS NETWORK, HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY CHAPTER
This is a non-profit national organization with a local chapter serving all of Hillsborough County and beyond. The organization provides support and education resources for parents and individuals with an interest in natural living, natural health and mindful parenting. Activities include play groups, money saving co-ops, a national and local online community, an e-newsletter and more. This chapter meets monthly on the third Thursday and holds bonus meetings at other times. Membership is open to anyone interested in holistic living. The annual fee is $45.
This not-for-profit Visiting Nurse Association and hospice provides a wide range of necessary medical, nursing, therapeutic, social, and supportive care services to the elderly, the acute and chronically ill, children, newborns, and adults. In addition, the agency provides hospice services for patients at end-of-life and bereavement support for the family after a loved one dies. Hospice care is provided in a patient's home, long-term care facility, or at our Community Hospice House in Merrimack. HHHC also hosts a variety of Community Wellness Clinics including foot care clinics, flu shot clinics, and blood pressure screenings. Services are covered by Medicare, Medicaid, many health insurance companies, and by private payment. Reduced fee and free services are available to those in financial need. HUMANE SOCIETY FOR GREATER NASHUA
This organization is dedicated to the creation and maintenance of a responsible and humane two- and four-footed community. It provides for and protects abandoned, abused, neglected and unwanted animals and promotes animal welfare through programs and services that mutually benefit animals and people. Beside providing a temporary home for pets needing adoption, the Society offers a foster program for pregnant cats and kittens too young to survive on their own, a Seniors for Seniors program which places older cats with olders adults, a Matchmaker Program for arranging suitable adoptions, and pet therapy visits to local nursing homes.
The center is a meeting and function facility for Merrimack's citizens. The Center serves as home to the Merrimack Senior Citizens Club and as a satellite senior feeding/Meals on Wheels site for St. Joseph Community Services. The facility is available to rent for select functions. Meetings of the John O'Leary Adult Community Center, Inc. Board of Directors are held there on the first Monday of the month at 7:30 pm.
The Board of Directors handles the administration and direction of the John O'Leary Adult Community Center as a meeting and function facility for Merrimack citizens. Responsibilities include coordinating and managing all activities, providing clean up and maintenance, and preparing operating budgets and financial reports. Meetings are held the first Monday of each month (September through June) at 7:30 pm at the Center on Church Street. Membership is open to all adult Merrimack residents. Prospective adult board members may contact the Board for consideration.
The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic men's fraternal benefit society that was formed to render mutual aid and assistance to sick, disabled and needy members and their families. The Queen of Peace Council is affiliated with Our Lady of Mercy church. Meetings are held the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7 pm in the basement of the Religious Education Hall. Memberhips is open to Catholic men in good standing with the church. Our Merrimack community activities include Nashua Soup Kitchen, Christmas Craft Fair, Concession Trailer at MYA soccer games, coffee and donuts after Sunday masses, and monthly family buffet breakfasts. We support Merrimack HS Scholarships, Merrimack Friars, Network Opportunity, Nashua Soup Kitche, St. Joseph Community Services, Easter Seals, NH Special Olympics, and Merrimack Home Health & Hospice.
Free meetings are held the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 10 am in Nashua, the 2nd Thursday of each month at 7 pm in Milford, and the third Friday of each month at 10 am in Derry. The purpose of the group is to provide information and support to breastfeeding mothers. Support is given through monthly meetings as well as telephone. Membership in La Leche League International is $40 per year and includes a subscription to New Beginnings magazine and a 10% discount on books and tapes ordered through the catalog. The group sells Maya wrap slings as an on-going fundraiser.
This organization reviews existing and proposed land uses along the Merrimack River with a focus on ensuring a balance of open space, agriculture, commerce, and recreation. Protection of the corridor is foremost to the LAC. The Committee also reviews development proposals, implements a corridor management plan, and facilitates communication among towns in the Lower Merrimack River corridor to further the river’s protection. Meetings are held the 4th Thursday of the month at 7 pm at various locations within the corridor communities of Merrimack, Litchfield, Nashua, and Hudson. |
