About the Friends of the Library
The Friends of the Library meet the second Thursday of the month from September to
June at 7:30 PM in the library's Klumpp Room. All are welcome!
The May meeting has been cancelled - join us on June 10!
We promote increased awareness and use of the library, sponsor special projects to increase the cultural and informational opportunities of the community, assist in fundraising for the library, and provide financial assistance for library needs.
Special Programs
Books for Babies
We feel it is important for parents to begin reading to their newborns as
early as possible. Therefore new babies born to Merrimack residents will
receive a card from the Friends, inviting their parents to bring the card
to the library to receive a special gift bag. In this bag we have a new
book for the baby, a bib, other gifts and a special list of books that
might be of interest to new parents. If you know a Merrimack resident
who just became a parent and might be interested in receiving this gift
bag, email Dortha Morrill
or forward their name and mailing address to the Friends, c/o
the Merrimack Library, 470 D.W. Highway, Merrimack, NH, 03054. |

Shelf Elf Jar
The
Shelf Elf Jar can be found somewhere in the library. Throughout the year
patrons toss coins and bills into it then, periodically, the Friends will sponsor
a free contest where patrons guess how much
money is in it. Patrons can guess as many times as they like and the closest guess wins something special! |

Throughout the year the Friends host and co-sponsor a variety of events.
They host programs like Kenneth Gloss' entitled "Treasures in Your Attic: Old and Rare Books".
They hold fundraisers like the Wii game system raffle in fall 2008.
They often host authors, like Katherine Towler (author of the 2006 "One Book, One Town" selection Snow Island) and resident K Spirito, who recently published
Candy-colored Clown, the fourth book in her LaRosa Chronicles series.
They sponsor programs like "Weather Watching On Mt. Washington" in June 2007.
They co-sponsor programs like Alfred Watson's recital of The Nutcracker in December 2008, "The Golden Days of Rock n'Roll with Mel Simons, and Jeff Snow's concert in March '09.
They co-sponsor "One Book, One Town" events like character actress Betty Jean Steinshouer as Laura Ingalls Wilder and the performance of Too Human.
